3D printing is accurate, fast and cost effective
Our goal is to assist yacht designers and naval architects of all types of vessels by using 3D printing to provide a physical conceptual model early in the design process.
2D drawings and 3D renderings are effective visual aids, yet a physical model can be an invaluable tool, allowing designers, engineers and their clients to study form, proportions and style early in a design’s development, effectively shortening the time through the design spiral.
Rapid Marine Prototype understands that the design spiral may require variations on a design theme. Conceptual models early in the design spiral can lead to design changes. R.M.P. will work with the yacht designer to tailor a design package, which may incorporate multiple models so that multiple design iterations may be explored.
Our services:
- Conceptual models, tank test models, display models, miniatures and customized yacht designs as jewelry
- 3D surface and solid modeling, rending and preparation of .stl files.
- Marine design and industrial design
- Physical FEA models showing complete stress contours are also available for engineers and engineers who provide service as legal expert witness.
Rapid prototyping has served designers and engineers in various industries including product design, jewelry, architecture, automotive, aerospace, medical and machine design and manufacturing for years. Rapid Marine Prototype is bringing RP technology to the marine industry.
3D Printing for Boat Builders
3D printing can also be used for complex small to medium part composite tooling for composite boat builders. In the recreational/production boat building sector, important technological advances have been made in composite material science. The next technological advances will be in manufacturing. With the placement of affordable and advanced 3D CAD packages in many yacht design and engineering departments and boat building shops, many boat builders are taking advantage of and investing in CNC routers to assist in manufacturing and tooling needs. RP technology will soon follow. 3D printing can reduce man-hours spent on tooling by printing male and female moulds for small to medium size composite parts accurately and faster than by hand or by CNC machines. 3D printing can produce complex parts that may otherwise be impossible for 3 axis routers and difficult and timely to build by hand. A boat builder who is already using a CAD package to design and draw small to medium size composite parts now has the option of using 3D printing to increase productivity.
